Military Community Support Project
Veterans Day Launch of Military Share Initiative
In advance of Veterans Day, Military Community Support Project, a Pittsburgh-based 501c3, announced today that in collaboration with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and the PA Veteran Farming Network, they will be launching an innovative program in support of Military Share food bank distributions. MCSP will purchase livestock from veterans who farm in Pennsylvania to be processed locally, and the meat donated to food banks for distribution to eligible veterans and military servicemembers.
In the first donation cycle, combat Army veteran Chris Ishler, of Sinking Creek Meats near State College, PA, and an associate director of the PA Veteran Farming Network, will provide a beef heifer, which will provide beef for at least 600 food boxes. Ishler said, “Sinking Creek Meats is happy to be playing a part in a good program for families who may not have access to fresh, local meat. Beef is a healthy and high-quality protein, but it may be outside of many families’ budgets. As an Army veteran, I’m especially glad that the program will be helping my fellow veterans through Military Share.” Future purchases will be made from other veteran farmers, who can be found at pavetfarms.org
